The idea of bamboo diplomacy was first coined by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the 29th Diplomatic Conference in Hanoi (2016), and reiterated at the first National Conference on Foreign Affairs in Hanoi (2021). Vietnam has built a unique school of diplomacy of the Ho Chi Minh era, bearing the characters of Vietnamese bamboo with “strong roots, stout trunk and flexible branches," imbued with the soul, the spirit, and the characters of the Vietnamese nation.

The 13th Party Central Committee opened its mid-term meeting in Hanoi on May 15, chaired by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
